A founding partner of the investment research and management firm Sanford C. Bernstein & Co., and currently vice-chairman emeritus of Alliance Bernstein. Former chairman of The Tikvah Fund, the New York Historical Society, and the Manhattan Institute. Was awarded the National Humanities Medal in 2007 in recognition of his philanthropic efforts.
