Natan Sharansky is a human rights activist and politician. Born in Ukraine, he was arrested on trumped up charges and spent nine years in the Gulag. He made Aliyah in 1986 following his release. He formed the Yisrael BaAliyah party to help integrate Russian Jews and served in four successive governments, including as Deputy Prime Minister. He has received the Congressional Medal of Honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the Israel Prize.
